John W. Godfrey is dedicated to giving victims of negligence and medical malpractice the best possible chance to rebuild. From discovery and depositions through summary judgment and trial, he is an aggressive advocate and a veteran trial attorney with the proven courage to stand up to those responsible for his client’s loss.
Before joining Torgan Cooper + Aaron in 2016, John fought in the trenches of New York City's criminal courts for nearly a decade as a public defender with the Criminal Defense Practice of The Legal Aid Society. First in Brooklyn and later in Manhattan, he defended indigent people against the largest police department and district attorneys' offices in the country. By seeking out the most serious cases - and ensuring superior investigation, litigation, and trial performance - John developed a reputation for winning improbable acquittals on supposedly bulletproof facts. As an associate with Torgan Cooper + Aaron, he draws from these experiences and continues battling for people facing seemingly impossible odds.
John is a 2006 graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and a 2002 graduate of Bucknell University. While at Cardozo he was a member of the Arts and Entertainment Law Journal, a Dean’s Scholarship recipient, and participated in the Intensive Trial Advocacy Program.
