Evan Torgan is the founding partner in the firm Torgan Cooper + Aaron, where he concentrates his practice in plaintiff’s personal injury
and medical malpractice litigation. He is hugely respected both in and beyond the New York, Tri-State area and as one judge commented, “He is one of the leading personal injury lawyers in the country.”
In an industry judged by the amounts awarded to their injured clients, Evan Torgan has procured some of the highest verdicts and settlements for his clients. He has to his credit numerous multi-million dollar verdicts including $90 million for a brain-injured child resulting from neonatal malpractice, $64 million for a brain-damaged baby caused by obstetrical malpractice, $45 million for a child paralyzed during spine surgery, $30 million for a child struck by a truck causing brain and orthopedic injuries, $23 million for a passenger paralyzed in the Staten Island Ferry accident, $20 million for the surviving daughter of a victim of an automobile accident, $17 million for a nurse who suffered a herniated disc from an automobile accident, and $9.5 million for a pedestrian injured by a major power company.
Mr. Torgan also has many settlements in the multi-million dollar range including a record setting $22 million for a pedestrian struck by a Duane Reade truck, $20 million for a mechanic who lost his legs while helping move a disabled vehicle on the highway, $19.5 million for a girl paralyzed during spinal surgery, $14 million for a brain-injured baby from obstetrical malpractice, $14 million for spinal injuries sustained in a major home improvement store, $7 million for a child struck by an intoxicated driver and $7 million for a child who succumbed to medical malpractice.
Mr. Torgan is a graduate of Hofstra Law School where he was an associate editor of the Law Review. Today, he co-authors a regular column with his friend and colleague Ben Rubinowitz, titled “Trial Advocacy,” in the New York Law Journal
and was an adjunct professor at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he taught courses in Trial Techniques and Litigation.
He has been a frequent lecturer for the New York State Bar Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the New York County Lawyers’ Association, the Queens County Bar Association, the Kings County Bar Association and The Judicial Institute. He has also been a frequent instructor at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and lends his expertise for continuing education for New York State Judges.
Mr. Torgan has written and lectured on all areas of trial practice.
